Work is going to be interesting this upcoming week. I just found out last week that my current project manager is getting reassigned. Then, on Thursday, I found out that the project manager that will be taking over for him is a new hire and starts tomorrow. I just hope he's as cool and laid back as the other project manager.
In previous jobs, when I had to work with a new boss, it never went well. Hopefully, this won't be a repeat of past experiences.

I got a surprising phone call at work today. The City of Houston is hosting an Administrative Professionals Conference in April, and they want me to be one of the speakers! I was shocked that I was even asked. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. It is scheduled for April 26th at the GRB Convention Center. The lady that called me had gotten my name from another city employee, who was in the same CPS Review course that I attended. I am so excited about it!
This is in addition to the other speaking engagement that I am doing next month. I'll be speaking to the Houston Chapter of IAAP on February 21st. That happens at the Crown Plaza Hotel in downtown Houston. I hope there's a good turn out for that meeting. I need to work on speaking to larger groups of people.

It took a lot of trial and error, but I finally completed the hat for Russ. He is just an adorable little boy. His mom and grandmother sit across the aisle from me and Lori at the Aeros games. Since the Aeros organization didn't make hats for toddlers, I decided to make one for him. Here's the result:

I wasn't able to get it before my sister's birthday…but I finally got it!
Better late than never!

I think everyone has mixed feelings about this issue, but here's where I stand.
I'm okay with dogs riding around loose in the back of a pick-up truck IF the person is just driving down back roads and not traveling too far.
On my way home today, I was behind a truck on Sam Houston Toll Way with a dog completely loose in the back of his truck. It made me sick to my stomach! It was a four-door truck, so I know they could have found room to let the dog sit in there. It just disgusted me and I couldn't wait to get around the guy so I didn't have to look at the poor dog.

I did have some excitement prior to the end of the year. This past Friday, I was home alone. I’m sitting in the computer room working and notice my parents’ dog running across the backyard with a squirrel in his mouth. So I head outside and the dog, HiWay, comes running up to me all excited about his squirrel. Fortunately, it was already dead. I tried to get him to drop it, and he wouldn’t. So I went to get a dog treat for him, thinking he would drop the squirrel in order to eat the treat. That didn’t work out, so I got a plastic grocery sack and wrap it around the squirrel and the dog’s mouth. He finally let go of the damn thing. I didn’t know what to do with it, so I tied the bag close and left it on my step-dad’s boat.
When he got home, he asked me why there was a dead squirrel on his boat. I told him I didn’t know if I could just throw it in the trash or not, so I left it for him. I think he ended up throwing it in the trash anyway since there was trash pick-up the next day.
That was my year-end excitement with the dog and the dead squirrel.
