Many of you already know that I’m a regular poster on the message board of Instigator Alley. Of course, I have a member name that comes up whenever I post as opposed to my real name. So, here’s what show when I post something:

And, each time I post, I have a signature at the bottom. Here’s what it looks like:

It cracks me up when people come up to me at the hockey games and ask “Are you Reitz Freak?” (referring to my signature line) or “Are you RedVulcan500?” (referring to my member name). I proudly admit that I am the Reitz Freak/RedVulcan500 person. Usually, the person comes up to me has just gone to the message board for the first time and I guess they were excited that they could put a face with the person posting. I recently added another item to my signature line. It’s more for Lori, but I really like it:
| Mike Smith is a Rock Star! | ![]() |
For the non-hockey fanatics, Mike Smith is one of the Houston Aeros goalies. In an interview posted on the team’s web site, he states that if he weren’t a hockey player, he would like to be a professional golfer or a rock star. He is quoted saying “I think both of them are pretty amazing jobs, and I think a rock star would be unbelievable.” Not only does he want to be a rock star, but he plays like one. You’d probably have to go to a game to understand that statement, but it’s true.

This was a busy weekend for me. Lori and I went to the Aeros game on Friday night. Fellow Aero-fanatic Meredith sat with us that night. It was great having her there. She needs to get her butt to more games!
On Saturday, Lori and I went to Beaumont to watch the Beaumont Wildcatters take on the Pee Dee Pride. Our main reason for going was to see former Aero Jan Vodrazka, who now plays for the Pride. It was so awesome to see him again.
On Sunday, we had another Aeros game. It was one of the best games this year since Derek Boogaard got his first AHL goal. It was awesome. Although the crowd wasn’t that big (less than 4000), you couldn’t tell from all the cheering that happened when Derek scored. It was awe-inspiring. I did notice that my favorite player, Erik Reitz, still had his arm brace on, which is disappointing. I really wanted to see him play again this season, but the chances of that happening aren’t looking too good.

When I posted my blog entry about my new site design, I completely forgot to thank Greg for his help in setting it up. If I had tried to do it all by myself, Lord only knows what it would have looked like! Thank you, Greg!

The hockey game on Wednesday was a blast! Jackie said she had fun, so I hope she wasn’t lying to me.
The best part of the whole evening was when Jackie and I were walking through the concourse saw Erik. We got to chat with him for a few minutes. He said that his arm brace would come off in a couple days. Even after that, he’ll still have to get back into “game shape”. I miss watching him play!
Get well soon, Erik!!!!

The Aeros played like crap this weekend. I felt so bad for them because they had the road trip from hell. Fortunately, they will be back in the Toyota Center on Wednesday night. And, on Wednesday night, my friend Jackie will be coming with me to the game. I figured I owe her one since she got me my job. This will the first hockey game she’s ever attended. I’m so excited!

I finally got my internet connection at home hooked back up. I'm catching up on emails that I missed while off-line. So, if you sent me an email, be patient - I will respond eventually.
I finally heard from my dear friend Audra this morning. I know she's been extremely busy. I miss her so much, but she's stuck in Alabama. She'll be here Memorial Day weekend for a hockey tournament. I told her that I would definitely come out and support her.
I went to the Aeros hockey game on Monday night. As I was leaving, I was behind a car with this awesome personalized license plate:

For those non-hockey fanatics: When a player gets in a fight, the usual penalty is five minutes, hence the "five for fighting".

Music is very powerful. There is one song that has really helped me cope with Daryn's death. When I went to the Aeros game on Saturday, there was this 11-month-old sitting with his parents two rows in front of us. He just kept smiling at us. I had to laugh to myself because I just kept remembering the lyrics from the beginning of the chorus from my coping song:
Everywhere I go
Every smile I see
I know you are there
Smilin back at me

Well, Daryn is being laid to rest today. I had intended on going to the viewing yesterday, but I didn't want to go by myself, so I never went. I'm missing his funeral today because I didn't want to ask for the time off from work since I'm still pretty new there. I miss him so much.

It's very rare to find a person that you completely, unselfishly love. I had found this person when I meet Daryn. He was a police officer for the City of Alvin and we met because I was working at Alvin EMS. We started dating back in May of 2002. This was after his first battle with brain cancer. He was in remission, but started getting really bad headaches again around September that year. We ended up breaking up in October, 2002, because he didn't feel like he could give me the time I deserved because of his illness. I still loved him, and we remained friends. The cancer did return. I just found out that he passed away yesterday. I feel like there is now a big hole in my heart. He was a wonderful man. I have not been in any serious relationship since I dated Daryn. I guess I was hoping that we would get back together once he started feeling better. He always wanted to face his battle with cancer alone.
His viewing will be this Sunday from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at Scott?s Funeral Home in Alvin. His funeral will be Monday morning at 10:00am at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland.
I think I'm still in shock over his death. I know it's going to be rough over the next several days. He had a wonderful son, so please keep him in your prayers during this time.

I thought things were suppose to get easier once I found a job! Well, my internet access at home as been shut off. I’m not sure when it will be back up and running. Some of my personal email is being forwarded to my work, so hopefully I won’t miss too much.

I got a wonderful surprise today. I received a phone call about working EMS at a Duathlon that is going on this Sunday at Highland Bayou Park. I am so behind on all my bills that I was more than willing to jump at this opportunity.

On Saturday, I went to College Station for the first time. Even though I was born and raised in Texas, I have never been before. Gil had to run some errands there and asked if I wanted to come along. I didn’t have anything else to do, so I went.
It’s a nice little town. We ate lunch at Free Birds, which was awesome. I found out this morning that they have a location in Clear Lake.
After we ate, Gil gave me a tour of the Texas A&M campus. It seems like we walked forever. I got to hear a bunch of his A&M stories. I’m kind of surprised that he managed to graduate after learning about all the partying he did while he was there.
It was fun and I enjoyed the opportunity to get out of the house.

I just love being able to support a meeting with people for all over the world. The guy for Canada is great. We’ve been talking about hockey over the past couple of days. Since the Aeros have a game tonight, I wore my hockey earrings at the meeting today. I showed them to the Canadian guy, who informed me that I’m “more Canadian” than he is!
