December 04, 2005I love you, MittensThis weekend was just hell. There's no other way to put it. One of my parents' cats, Mittens, passed away. He was 14 years old, but still it was a sad situation. It happened late Saturday night. Since both my mom and step-dad were extremely shaken up but the whole thing, I had to stay strong for them. After my step-dad dug a grave for him, I had to wrap him up in a towel and place him in there. It was probably one of the hardest things I ever I had to do; and an image that won't leave my mind soon enough. I didn't get a chance to truly grieve for him until tonight. It really hit me when their other cat, Smokey, wouldn't come near me. It dawned on me that Smokey had watched me put Mittens in his grave, and I wondered if he thought I was going to do the same thing to him. After everyone went to bed, I went outside to have my final words with Mittens. I didn't care that it was cold and raining, I had to do it. I'm going to miss him so much.
